Augusta: A Pictorial History recreates the development of this Southern city from river crossing to trading post, to military town, to resort, to educational center. Since the first edition of Augusta: A Pictorial History in 1980, the city has progressed along several avenues. Photographs depict the development of the area near the Savannah River and the revitalization of downtown. Helen Callahan, a native Augustan, has a doctorate in history from the University of Georgia. She has written numerous articles on local history and co-authored The History of Augusta College and Yesterday’s Augusta.
